Former Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive will speak at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, in Graves Hall 118 on The University of Alabama campus. The talk is free and open to the public. Slive will discuss his tenure as SEC commissioner, specifically addressing the evolving role of the media during his time.

David Higdon will open students to the world of NASCAR at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, in 216 Reese Phifer. The event is free and open to the public. As the integrated marketing communications managing director of NASCAR, Higdon plays a major role in the development of communication strategies and in overseeing communication initiatives across the company. Higdon will discuss the initiatives UA’s Program in Sports Communication has established with NASCAR.
The Alabama Program in Sports Communication’s second annual symposium will be Feb. 28 at The University of Alabama.
The University of Alabama’s Women’s Resource Center and the Alabama Program in Sports Communication will co-host a panel discussion titled “Being Brave: Sports and Native American Masculinity.”
Christine Brennan’s talk, a University of Alabama Through the Doors event, will be titled “Sports in the 21st Century: Diversity at the Starting Line.”
Fox Sports NASCAR analyst Larry McReynolds will provide an insider’s look at the sport with a speech and a question-and-answer session at The University of Alabama Oct. 17.
