TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - David McKinney of Southern Company Services
will present The California Energy Crisis - Could it Happen
Here? on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 7:30 a.m., at the Cahaba Pumping
Station in Birmingham. The event is sponsored by the Greater Birmingham
Chapter of The University of Alabamas Capstone
Engineering Society (CES).
McKinney, the manager of New Generation Projects for Southern Company
Services, will address the ongoing energy problems faced in California,
and the prospect that Alabama may be impacted in the same way.
The energy situation is a concern for everyone, and we would
like to invite our College of Engineering alumni to come and hear
more about what Alabama Power, The Southern Company and others are
doing in our state to avoid brownouts similar to those that have
occurred in California, said Brian Barr, vice president/division
manager of Brasfield & Gorrie in Birmingham and District I Chair
of CES.
Security issues as they relate to power generation capacity will
also be addressed, noted Barr. David McKinney has his thumb
on the development of over ten new power plants and can inform our
guests about ongoing and planned developments, he said.
CES is the alumni society of the UA College
of Engineering, and all alumni of the College in the Birmingham
area are invited to attend. Admittance is free and coffee and doughnuts
will be served. To register, contact Suzanne Lawless, CES director,
at 205/348-2341 or 1-800-333-8156, or by e-mail to slawless@coe.eng.ua.edu.
