- Greek Links, a yearlong fund-raiser by The University of Alabamas
greek system, will end on Friday, March 8, with a golf tournament
at Ol Colony golf course beginning at noon in Tuscaloosa.
Money raised by Greek Links will go to Childrens Hospital
and Habitat for Humanity.
The tournament will begin with a shotgun start and will conclude
with an awards presentation at 5 p.m. Closest to the hole and longest
drive awards will be presented. At 5:30 p.m., one individual who
qualifies will have a chance at a $1 million hole-in-one shot. Outback
Steak House and Papas College Custard are sponsoring the days
events.
Habitat for Humanity and Childrens Hospital, a member of
Childrens Miracle Network, will both benefit from the efforts
of the members of UAs 44 fraternities and sororities over
the past six months.
Nearly $150,000 was raised during the initial phases of the campaign.
The final total will be announced during the awards presentation
at 5 p.m., at the conclusion of the March 8 golf tournament. Childrens
Hospital patients from the Birmingham and Tuscaloosa areas will
be in attendance.
By the end of the fall 2001 semester, greeks at UA had raised enough
money to build a home for Habitat for Humanity. Construction by
fraternity and sorority members will begin on Saturday, March 9.
