TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The Media Planning Board of The University
of Alabama has named new student leaders for its publications and
radio station for the 2002-2003 academic year.
The board is an oversight body for the UA Office
of Student Media, which includes The Crimson White (CW)
student newspaper, the Corolla yearbook, WVUA-FM, Black
Warrior Review, Marrs Field Journal and Southern
Historian.
Stacy Whitlow of Metairie, La. was named editor and Jeremy
Adler of Birmingham (zip code 35242) advertising manager of
the CW. Whitlow is a senior majoring in journalism. Whitlow has
worked as the CW assistant art director for the past academic year
and is currently serving as a summer design/copy desk intern at
The Birmingham News. Prior to this, Whitlow also served as
senior staff reporter during the 1999-2000 academic year. Adler
is a senior majoring in public relations. Adler has served as the
advertising manager since January. Adler served as an account executive
for the CW in the spring of 2000.
David Goldberg of Tuscaloosa was named editor and Dan
Kaplan of Northport managing editor of the Black Warrior
Review. Goldberg is an MFA candidate in the UA department of
English. He has served as managing editor of BWR for the past year.
Kaplan is an MFA candidate in the UA department of English. He has
served as assistant poetry editor for the BWR since 2000.
John Ratliff of Tuscaloosa was named editor and Stephen
Schwab of Tuscaloosa assistant editor of the Southern Historian.
Ratliff is a doctoral candidate in the UA department of history.
He has served as associate editor for Southern Historian
for the past year. He received a bachelors degree from the
University of West Florida and his masters from UA. Schwab
is also a doctoral candidate in the UA department of history. He
received his bachelors from Washington University and masters
degrees from Washington University and the University.
Marc Petersen of Tuscaloosa was named station manager of
WVUA-FM. Petersen is an MFA candidate in the UA department of English.
He has served as production director for WVUA since 1999. Petersen
has also served as a graduate teaching assistant in the English
department since 1999.
April DeRome of Elmore was appointed editor and Sarah
Shay of Birmingham (zip code 35242) managing editor of the Marrs
Field Journal. DeRome is a senior majoring in American studies.
DeRome has served as managing editor of the Marrs Field
Journal for the past semester. Shay is a sophomore majoring
in advertising.
Sarah Fleischman of Columbia, S.C., was appointed editor
and Mark Beaty of Hoover was named business manager of the
2003 Corolla yearbook. Fleischman is a senior majoring in
advertising. She has served on the CW staff as classified sales
representative, and also served as the managing editor for the 2002
Corolla. Beaty is a senior majoring in international marketing.
Beaty was a Corolla photographer for the 2002 book.
