After graduating from the University of Alabama's theater and dance department in December 2004, Stephen Tyrone Williams hit the boards running. It came as no surprise to those who knew the talented, hard-working young man that he landed a touring role and his Equity (the actors' union) card within a week of moving to the Big Apple.

UA to host Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta CEO

The top executive of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta is slated to speak at the University of Alabama's economic outlook conference. Dennis Lockhart, president and CEO, will be the keynote speaker at the annual event for the university's Center for Business and Economic Research in January.

University of Alabama's Acoustic Sensor to Reduce Sensing Footprint

In a case of disaster recovery, a new acoustic sensor being developed at the University of Alabama could aid rescuers in finding buried victims. “The goal is to develop a sensor that will not only detect a sound, but tell you what direction a sound is coming from and hopefully tell you how far away that sound source is located,” says Dr. Steve Shepard, associate professor in mechanical engineering at the University of Alabama.

Pittsburgh worlds will collide again in a bio-pic of NFL Hall of Famer Joe Namath, to be written by Mt. Lebanon native David Hollander. The untitled Namath film, from Universal Pictures, will star Jake Gyllenhaal of "Zodiac" and "Brokeback Mountain," and follow the quarterback from his upbringing in Beaver Falls to the University of Alabama and stardom with the New York Jets.

Mike Cox is a regionally known author who recently published his second book, October Saturdays. He is also a writer for The Columbia Star. Cox was interviewed by a staff member of The Columbia Star. His book, October Saturdays is a Cox family history tied to University of Alabama football games. Each selected story involves a particular game and family circumstances that make that game memorable.
