A van driven by former University of Alabama football star Siran Stacy was struck by a pickup at an intersection and six people were killed, including Stacy's wife and four of his children, state troopers said Tuesday…Stacy, 39, a star running back for Alabama during 1989-91, was listed in stable condition in surgical intensive care at Flowers Hospital in Dothan. His 3-year-old daughter, Shelly, was taken to Children's Hospital in Birmingham, which did not release her condition…Ellen Stacy was co-captain of the women's volleyball team at Alabama in 1991 and a four-year letter winner during 1989-1992…

Former coaches, teammates rally to support Stacy

While Siran Stacy continues to mend physically and deal with the loss of his wife and four children, former University of Alabama football coaches and teammates have been expressing support for his continued recovery…Stacy’s wife, Ellen Bible Stacy, was a standout volleyball player for Alabama in the early 1990s. Alabama Athletic Director Mal Moore, who served as Stacy’s offensive coordinator in 1990 and 1991, issued a written statement to the media, expressing sympathy for the families. "Words cannot express the depth of the heartache we share with the Bible and Stacy families," Moore said in the statement. "I am sure I speak for all the members of the Alabama athletics family in expressing our shock and sadness for the tragedy that has befallen these two families. I also want to let both families know that we stand ready to assist them during this time of need and ask all Alabama fans to keep the Bible and Stacy families in their thoughts and prayers."…

Thanksgiving driving season more deadly, experts say

…In the Dothan wreck, former University of Alabama football player Siran Stacy was injured and five members of his family — his wife and four of his children — were killed when their vehicle was struck by a pickup truck on the wrong side of the road…“Primarily in the past, traffic accidents and fatalities were concentrated right on, and after, the Thanksgiving holiday itself,” said Kerri Keith, an assistant research engineer with the University of Alabama’s Critical Analysis Reporting Environment Research and Development laboratory, a program that develops computer applications for law enforcement and traffic safety…

New scholarship fund to help future UA business students

Task force finding shortfall in state autism services
Tuscaloosa News – Nov. 21
…The Alabama Autism Task Force along with researchers from the University of Alabama and University of Alabama at Birmingham are assessing the state’s autism needs. Meetings have been held throughout the state — including in Tuscaloosa on Monday — to determine what is good and what is lacking in the care of autistic Alabamians…“There is not enough services, and certainly not enough coordinated services,” said Laura Grofer Klinger, director of UA’s Autism Spectrum Disorders Research Clinic and a member of the research team. “We are struggling. We are not the only state that is struggling but we are not meeting the needs. ... We are going to have to look at revamping the continuum of care for autism in the state and hopefully getting a coordinated system of care in place.”…
