Tannehill slave quarters unearthed

The artifacts were found in a dig at what archaeologists are convinced is a former slave quarters at the park."We suspected they were houses. Now we know they were houses," said Randy Mecredy, assistant director and education outreach coordinator for the University of Alabama Museum of Natural History.

Board approves tuition, salary increases

Students and professors can expect to see tuition increases and salary increases this fall at the University, according to a plan approved June 15 by the UA System Board of Trustees. In-state students will pay an additional $422 a year, and out-of-state students will pay an additional $1,224 a year.

Bob Teare, a respected and retired UA social work professor, died last week in his sleep. Adored by the staff of the School of Social Work and loved greatly by his family.while his family and friends are in mourning, they acknowledge something even greater: Teare led a happy and successful life and affected those close to him in great ways.

Tom Strong to retire next Friday

Tom Strong says he is looking forward to his retirement next Friday. On the horizon, he envisions himself gardening his hydrangeas, continuing to coach the Alabama waterskiing team and maybe even traveling to Central America. After 40 years of tending to the wants and needs of students, it's difficult to imagine a man more affected by the University.
Sophomore wins scholarship to study in Germany

Lekisha Gunn, a sophomore majoring in German and economics, is one of 54 students in the United States and Canada to win the Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Deinst undergraduate scholarship, which allows her to study at a German university of her choice during the 2007-08 academic year.
Academic recruit rewarded

It pays to be an academic recruit. Just ask Richard Cockrum, an incoming freshman majoring in chemistry. Cockrum received the Vulcan Materials Scholarship that pays tuition and housing and provides a laptop computer and a $10,000 stipend per year.
Panel to discuss senator's punch
