Mung Villagers and Mt. Fansipan

May 14, 2009

Right off the bat Dr. Johnson found a new bird as we arrived into Sapa. His giddy found new bird dance was just great! We met the Mung people of North Vietnam. They live in the village of Lao Chai and are fluent in their tribal language, Vietnamese, and English. It was amazing. They walk up to 70 km or about 3 hours to get to Sapa everyday to sell their handmade tapestries, instruments, hats, and necklaces to tourists. They were extremely nice but a little pushy. I get the impression that Sapa gets a lot of tourists based on the number of salesmen that speak English here.
