Wounded Hearts Art Exhibit at UA Focuses on Survivors of Domestic Violence

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Alabama Women’s Resource Center will host the “Healing the Wounded Heart” exhibit April 8-30 in the Ferguson Center Art Gallery.

The exhibit gives visual testimony to the impact of violence in the lives of survivors. Through the Wounded Hearts program, survivors are able to express through artistic expression the influence of violence and the strength gained through healing.

A reception will be held Tuesday, April 8, at 6 p.m. in the gallery. Students, faculty and members of the community are invited to attend.

The Ferguson Center Art Gallery and Verizon Wireless are co-sponsoring the Wounded Hearts event this year.

“We are proud to work with The University of Alabama Women’s Resource Center to bring about awareness of abuse on campus and throughout Alabama. The 'Healing the Wounded Heart' art exhibit provides a proactive approach to helping those affected by domestic violence and sexual assault,” said Caran Smith, Verizon Wireless public relations manager for the Alabama/Georgia region.
