TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Alabama Sport Management
Program is traveling to the U.S. Olympic Committee National Headquarters
in Colorado for Interim Term 2006.
This study/tour of the USOC is an opportunity for prospective
sport management professionals to interact with national sport
managers.
UA students will have the opportunity to take the Interim Term
class, “Trends and Issues in Sports Management.” The
class is offered through the UA College of Human Environmental
Sciences as HES 452 or HES 552. Students will learn about the Olympic
Movement through presentations on international games preparations,
sports partnership teams, USOC training center daily operations
and the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.
Developed and initiated by Dr. Ken Wright, professor in the College
of Human Environmental Sciences, with Glen Warner Rosebloom and
Cindy Stinger of the USOC, the second annual sport management seminar
class offers a unique opportunity to participate in a week-long
seminar at the Colorado Springs training center. As part of that
week’s activities, students will view presentations from
the USOC and Colorado Springs training center staff and also work
in integrated groups to produce a project there.
The projects will be based on the adaptation of current facilities
and services for relocation to Beijing for an American athlete “home-field
advantage” program, the development of an event planning
manual specific to the Colorado Springs site in concert with programs
staff, and a critique of current services for athletes that would
integrate plans for an increase and upgrade. Students will present
their final project to Colorado Springs training center staff and
offer recommendations for implementation.
UA will offer its Interim Term session May 15-June 2. Course offerings
are versatile, ranging from travel-study courses to more traditional
courses in business and the sciences and humanities. Interim courses
are offered by most schools and colleges across the UA campus.
For more information on this Interim Term course, contact Dr.
Ken Wright at kwright@bama.ua.edu or 205/348-4705.
