TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Alabama Men
Against Violence will show the film “Macho” Tuesday, Sept 27, at 7 pm
in the Ferguson Center Mortar Board room.
“Macho” was produced by a United Kingdom anti-violence
group and was chosen as part of UA’s Celebration of Hispanic
Heritage.
The film profiles the formation and efforts of Nicaragua’s
Hombres Contra la Violencia. It focuses on a group of men who work
to eliminate the “machismo” in their culture and their
own lives that leads to violence and abuse toward women and children.
A discussion will follow the film screening.
“The cultural attitudes that the group in ‘Macho’ are
combating are not unique to Nicaragua or any other country outside
the U.S.,” said Matthew Rombach, UA Men’s Violence
Prevention Coordinator. “This film can provide us with an
excellent model for ending violence against women here in our own
community.”
