TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The 2004 University of Alabama homecoming court was selected in a general student election on Tuesday, Oct. 12.

The UA Homecoming Queen and Capstone Gentleman will be announced Friday, Oct. 15, at the UA pep rally beginning at 7 p.m. on the UA Quad. The queen will be crowned and the gentleman will be recognized during halftime of the homecoming football game between Alabama and Southern Mississippi on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 2:30 p.m. in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Some 3,500 UA students voted on the queen and gentleman in this year’s election.

A new recognition, Capstone Gentleman, was also voted upon Tuesday. The Capstone Gentleman will serve as the male counterpart to the female Homecoming Queen, with the other male students being members of the homecoming court.

The following female students were chosen to be members of the homecoming court:

Bess Copeland, a junior secondary education major in the language arts from Cullman, who is active in the Wesley Foundation, a resident assistant, secretary for the Student Alabama Education Association and president of the Residence Hall honorary.

Katie McCrory, a senior public relations major from Bessemer, who is vice president of external relations for Kappa Alpha Theta, a member of ODK and the Elliott Society as well as publicity director for the Homecoming Committee.

Chequetta Moore, a senior accounting major from Tuskegee, who is treasurer of XXXI, treasurer of Delta Sigma Theta, a member of the Blackburn Institute, and was designated as outstanding freshmen, sophomore and junior by the Black Faculty and Staff Association.

Maridi Thompson, a senior marketing major from Tuscaloosa with a perfect 4.0 grade point average who is a member of the Blackburn Institute, XXXI, Anderson Society and Alpha Gamma Delta.

Lacey Valeska, a senior history major from Dothan who is currently president of Kappa Kappa Gamma, secretary of ODK and a member of both Golden Key and Order of Omega.

The following male students were chosen to be members of the homecoming court:

Matthew Bees, a senior Human Environmental Sciences major from Georgiana, who is the SGA executive secretary, president of the HES Ambassadors, has served as CCSO vice president for administrative affairs, and a two time recipient of the Runnion Scholarship.

Aaron Paul Brown, a graduate student in musical conducting from Birmingham (zip code 35234), who is a graduate assistant with the Million Dollar Band, a member of Phi Mu Alpha and the wind ensemble, and a program teacher in the Rose Fine Arts program at Matthews Elementary School.

Justin Carroll, a senior nursing major from McCalla who is on the dean’s list, a member of the Association of Nursing Students and one of the current UA Big Al mascots.

Lucas Elgie, a senior business management major from Snellville, Ga., who is president of both Theta Chi and Jasons, chair of the SGA Block Seating Committee and served as a co-op student with Mercedes-Benz.

Mike Kuffner, a senior accounting major from Huntsville with a perfect 4.0 grade point average, who is currently the SGA vice president of financial affairs, a member of Sigma Chi, Mortar Board, and is serving as treasurer of You’ve Got a Friend.
