TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A delegation from The University of Alabama
Residence Hall Association won
several awards at the Alabama United Residence Halls (ALURH) Conference
held at the University of South Alabama earlier this month.
Stormy Miller of Duncanville, the current UA hall
council president at Bryce Lawn, was selected as the Student of
the Year by ALURH. This award recognizes outstanding service to
the school, state and region by an individual.
UA resident assistant and Parham Hall Council historian LaQuinchata
Taylor of Dolomite was elected the Alabama affiliations
coordinator for 2004-2005. She assumed office at the end of the
ALURH Conference.
Three UA students also received honors for presenting the Top Two
Programs at the conference. Desirée Adams of Mobile
and Josh Johnson of Gulfport, Miss., taught fellow
conference attendees how to tango in their program entitled “Dance.”
Lauren Muse of New Orleans was honored for her
craft program, “Let’s Bowl!” Muse’s program
taught participants how to make bowls out of rolls of raffle tickets.
UA student Krista Stringer of Creola ended her
service as state director of ALURH at the conference. As part of
the closing ceremony, Stringer presented a Silver Star Pin to her
parents, William and Lisa Stringer, and her grandmother, Marie Myles.
The pins are awarded to individuals who have provided support and
direction to the officers of ALURH. The Silver Star Award is given
at the state officer’s discretion and each officer only awards
one pin.
