UA Faculty Member Hosts Virtual Colloquium

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama’s Dr. Tom Ward, a senior research fellow in the Center for Creative Media and executive officer of the Cognitive Science Society, will act as host for a virtual colloquium on Friday, April 9 at 1 p.m. E.S.T. The speaker will be Professor Andy Clark, director of the Cognitive Science Program at Indiana University, who will talk about the “extended mind” and how human created devices are leading to new forms of cognition and new ways of thinking about the mind.

The CSS puts on a series of five different virtual colloquia each year, with the talks organized around the general theme of the nature of thought. Anyone anywhere in the world with an interest in cognitive science can register and “attend” the colloquium for free just by logging on using their own computers.

People hear the talk, see the speaker’s Power Point slides, get a list of others in attendance, can send messages as part of a text chat and, if they have a microphone, can ask questions that others also hear.

The colloquium series is funded by a grant from the Office of Naval Research. To sign up to attend, go to www.ctaresource.com/CognitiveScience.
