TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A turtle sculpture by renowned artist Frank Fleming will be unveiled at The University of Alabama Child Development Research Center during a dedication ceremony Friday, April 1 at 3 p.m.

The turtle sculpture, named John and given on behalf of John L. and Margaret E. Rhoads, is a creation of Fleming’s. He is an internationally-acclaimed sculptor who received his Master of Fine Arts from UA.

John the turtle joins Peter the rabbit in the sculpture garden located in front of the Child Development Research Center, a part of the UA College of Human Environmental Sciences.

The Rhoadses have been fans and longtime friends of Fleming. Margaret E. Rhoads is a member of the HES Leadership Board who, after a tour of the then-newly built CRDC, suggested an art sculpture garden for the children to enjoy.

The University of Alabama, a student-centered research university, is experiencing significant growth in both enrollment and academic quality. This growth, which is positively impacting the campus and the state's economy, is in keeping with UA's vision to be the university of choice for the best and brightest students.
