TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Calvin J. Brown, a partner and portfolio manager with BlueCreek Investment Partners, LLC, in Huntsville, has been named director of alumni affairs at The University of Alabama, effective April 1.

“Calvin Brown has been a dedicated advocate for The University of Alabama for almost 30 years,” said Dr. Pam Parker, vice president for University advancement at UA, in announcing the appointment. “He will bring strong leadership skills and a genuine love for his fellow alumni to his new position.”

Brown will replace long-time UA Director of Alumni Affairs Pat Whetstone, who is retiring April 30.

“I am honored and humbled to have this opportunity to work alongside dedicated alumni and staff to continue the strong legacy and tradition of the National Alumni Association,” said Brown. “It gives me great confidence to know that I have such a strong network of friends throughout the state who are willing to help me in this new endeavor.”

Brown has been active in UA alumni activities since he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the College of Commerce and Business Administration in the early 1980s.  He served as president of the National Alumni Association in 1997-1998 and is a member of the UA President’s Cabinet.

He also served on the steering committee of the University’s “Our Students Our Future” capital campaign. He is chair of the Library Leadership Board, a member of the planned giving advisory committee and a board member for Capstone Village.

Brown was president and a partner in West Ellis Investment Management Inc. in Decatur from 1994 until 2009 when he joined BlueCreek Investment Partners. Previously, he was an investment analyst and portfolio manager for Management Advisory Group Inc. in Decatur.

Brown is active in First United Methodist Church of Decatur, where he has served as a member of the board of trustees, chair of the administrative board, chair of the stewardship campaign and Sunday School teacher.

His extensive civic and community involvement includes serving as a board member for the Morgan County Chapter of the American Red Cross, Alabama Humanities Foundation, BankFirst, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Mental Health Association of Morgan County, Rotary Club of Decatur, Parents and Children Together, Decatur Downtown Redevelopment Authority and Princess Theatre.

He and his wife, Judy, are the parents of two children, both of whom are UA students. Their daughter Julia is working on her master’s degree in the College of Human Environmental Sciences, and their son Pete is a sophomore in the Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration.
