Camden Student Named Miss UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Valerie Stewart, a junior from Camden majoring in interior design, was recently selected as the 2011 Miss University of Alabama.

As the new Miss UA, Stewart will receive a full-tuition scholarship and book scholarships for her year of service. She will also represent the University at the Miss Alabama Pageant in Birmingham in June.
Other awards included: Hayley Jones of Jasper-1st runner-up, Laura Lantrip of Birmingham-2nd runner-up, Barri Elizabeth Stephenson of Hoover-3rd runner-up and Courtney Parker of Daphne-4th runner-up.
Candace Hamner of Tuscaloosa won the Spirit of Alabama award; Lantrip won the talent competition; Hayley Jones of Birmingham and Parker tied for the swimsuit competition award.
Some 18 UA students competed in categories of private interview, swimsuit/physical fitness, talent, evening wear and on-stage question.
The Miss UA Program is an official preliminary competition for the Miss Alabama and Miss America Organizations and is sponsored by the UA Alumni Association.
