UA Car Tags Raise $3.5 Million for Student Scholarships
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama collegiate license tag program raised some $3.5 million during the 2010 fiscal year. Funds raised through the statewide program are used for scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students.
UA’s National Alumni Association raised a total of $3,452,635 through the car tag programs in the 2010 fiscal year, the most of any university in the state. Auburn University came in second with $2,358,271. Statewide, collegiate tags raised some $7.4 million for 26 colleges and universities.
At UA, more than 1,522 undergraduate students received scholarships through the license program this year, and 30 graduate students received fellowships.
“We are pleased that this program continues to grow each year, and we thank our alumni, friends and fans for the tremendous support. The collegiate license tag program is a great way to show your allegiance to the University and to contribute to scholarships for future generations of students at the Capstone,” said Pat Whetstone, director of alumni affairs at UA.
The license tag received a new look with the issue of a new design in March 2009. Tags are available at local county license offices. Both numbered and personalized tags are available; the cost is $50 above the normal tag cost. Collegiate tags may be purchased at any time, regardless of an individual’s tag renewal month.
