TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – An informational meeting about The University of Alabama’s Life Project – Legacy Intervention Family Enactment – will be held March 28 from 10:30 a.m.-noon at University Church of Christ.
The Life Project allows individuals with an advanced chronic illness to work with volunteers to create a personal legacy such as a cookbook, scrapbook or personal account of their life.
Individuals attending the public meeting will have the opportunity to learn more about the project and sign up to participate.
Participants must be at least 55 years old, able to read and speak English and living with an advanced illness. Caregivers must read and speak English, have at least weekly face-to-face contact with the care recipient and provide four hours per week of living assistance.
The project improves the quality of life for both the patient and caregiver through cost-effective care. The personal activity will help to trigger the patient’s memories and foster a connection with their caregiver. The project promotes wellness for the patient and caregiver through a legacy project that is unique to the patient’s life story.
