TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The 14th annual Communication Career Fair, one of the longest-running campus job fairs for the communication industry, is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Ballroom of Ferguson Center on The University of Alabama campus.
Representatives from all sectors of the media and some 300 students from campuses throughout the Southeast typically attend the fair, hosted by the UA College of Communication and Information Sciences and open to all students.
“The recruiters are interested in students who can communicate visually and in writing and can think on their feet,” said Dr. Caryl Cooper, assistant dean of the College and coordinator of the event.
This year, two special workshops are scheduled during the fair. The Sports Communication Workshop, held 11 a.m. – noon, will feature a panel of professionals working in various aspects of the field: reporting, announcing, marketing and public relations. The Careers in Christian Media Workshop, held 12:30 – 1:30 p.m., will feature professionals engaged in all aspects of Christian media. Both workshops will be in the Ferguson Center Heritage Room.
There is still time for recruiters to sign up. Company representatives should send an e-mail to Cooper at cooper@apr.ua.edu with the name, title and e-mail address of its representative, the name of company, city/state and preferred length of interviews. Companies should indicate if they need Internet connections and bring their own signs and brochures. Private interview space will be provided upon request.
The University of Alabama, a student-centered research university, is experiencing significant growth in both enrollment and academic quality. This growth, which is positively impacting the campus and the state's economy, is in keeping with UA's vision to be the university of choice for the best and brightest students. UA, the state's flagship university, is an academic community united in its commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all Alabamians.
