Chi Alpha Campus Ministry Hosts ‘Smurf Out’ Event at UA to Fight Poverty, Break World Record

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – University of Alabama students will be taking part in Chi Alpha Campus Ministry’s “Smurf Out Poverty” event on Thursday, April 16 at 7 p.m. in the Ferguson Center Plaza with the goal of breaking a world record while raising money to feed families in need.
Organizers are holding the event to raise money for the Vineyard Community Church food pantry while attempting to break the world record — 1,253 — for “Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Smurfs,” set in July 2008 in Ireland, according to Guinness World Records.
Blue paint will be provided and participants are asked to bring their own Smurf attire which should include a red or white hat, red or white pants and a blue shirt.
A $2 donation is requested of each participant.
Chi Alpha Ministry is a national organization geared toward college students focused on evangelism. Its partnership with Vineyard Community Church is an effort to suppress poverty in Tuscaloosa. Every Sunday, the church’s food pantry serves meals to dozens of families in need. The Smurf Out will raise money for these meals.
