Coffee and Chocolate are Topics for International Education Week Lectures

coffee posterTUSCALOOSA, Ala. – As part of International Education Week events at The University of Alabama, Dr. Joe Vinson of the University of Scranton will discuss “Chocolate Chemistry: The Science Behind the World’s Guilty Pleasure” on Wednesday, Nov.19 at 3:30 p.m. in the lobby of Rodgers Library and the “Science of Coffee” on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 3 p.m. in 205 Gorgas Library.

Vinson’s work has been featured on ABC Good Morning America Sunday, National Public Radio, the People’s Pharmacy and in Time magazine.

His current research focuses on the effect of foods, vitamins and antioxidants on nutrition and health. He is a consultant for several nutrition companies and for the last 25 years has been a National Tour Speaker for the American Chemical Society.

The event is co-sponsored by the Capstone International Center, chemistry department, faculty in residence program, New College, University Libraries, Creative Campus and Strip Teas & Coffee.

University students and faculty are invited to enjoy the lectures in celebration of International Education Week, held throughout the world in support and promotion of education beyond the classroom.

Free samples of coffee will be served at the Nov. 20 lecture.
