TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama Crossroads Community Center and the UA Center for Community-Based Partnerships are celebrating the opening of the 100 Lenses Photographic Exhibit as part of Homecoming festivities on Tuesday, Oct. 28 from 1-3 p.m. at the Crossroads Lounge in 232 Ferguson Center.
The Black Belt 100 Lenses Initiative allowed students from Greene County High School and Warrior Academy to photograph images of their daily lives and discuss the meaning of their culture. Students were given point-and-shoot cameras and asked to capture the culture of their communities.
The students’ work will be on display in the exhibit that allows the UA community an opportunity to see the beauty of rural Greene County.
“The most rewarding part of the project is seeing the students explore their talents, tap into skills they didn’t realize they had, and realize the important things within their community that are sometimes taken for granted,” said Elliot Knight, 100 Lenses project coordinator.
The Black Belt 100 Lenses Initiative was built on the experience and success of the 2006 UA 100 Lenses Project at Crossroads Community Center and the first Black Belt 100 Lenses program developed in Sumter County.
The exhibit will hang in the Crossroads Lounge through the Thanksgiving holiday.
