UA Community Director Receives Prestigious Award

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Amanda Wallace, community director in Housing and Residential Communities at The University of Alabama, was recently selected as recipient of the William Leftwich Award for Outstanding New Professional in NASPA, Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, Region III.
NASPA is the leading voice for student affairs administration, policy and practice and affirms the commitment of student affairs to educating the whole student and integrating student life and learning.
Wallace is currently community director for the UA Bryant Community, which includes Bryant Hall, Bryce Lawn Apartments, Small Group Housing and Graduate/Family Housing. She received her bachelor’s degree in critical gender studies and ethnic studies from the University of California, San Diego, and her master’s degree in education from City University of New York. Prior to arriving at UA, she served as a resident director at Fordham University.
The Leftwich Award is given to individuals who have performed all aspects of their job in an exemplary manner and it is also based on their contributions to NASPA as well as their employer institution.
Awards were presented at the NASPA Region III Summer Symposium held in Virginia Beach, Va., earlier this month. With more than 11,000 members at 1,400 campuses representing 29 countries, NASPA is the largest professional association for student affairs administrators, faculty and graduate students. NASPA members are committed to serving college students by embracing the core values of diversity, learning, integrity, collaboration, access, service, fellowship and the spirit of inquiry.
