Member of UA’s Delta Zeta Sorority Receives National Science Scholarship

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Alpha Gamma Chapter of Delta Zeta Sorority at The University of Alabama has announced that member Patti Ann Green of Columbus, Miss., was recently named a recipient of the Delta Zeta Foundation Charline Chilson Scholarship for Women in Science.
Green, a junior majoring in biology at UA, is one only of eight national undergraduate recipients of this highly competitive scholarship.
Green, vice-president of programs for Delta Zeta, is also a UA Capstone Woman and a senator in the UA Student Government Association. She was named the Order of Omega Outstanding Sophomore of the Year and is a member of Gamma Beta Phi, Alpha Lamda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma honor societies.
The science scholarships totaling some $49,000 are provided as a bequest of Charline Chilson Potts, Alpha Chi Chapter 1925, who was unable to pursue an advanced degree in science due to restrictions on women students at the University of California/Los Angeles in the 1920s. Because of that experience, she was committed to providing educational opportunities for women in the field of science. Potts was a technical librarian who specialized in chemical research.
