TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — In commemoration of The University of Alabama’s 175th Anniversary, the National Alumni Association and the Student Government Association are sponsoring a rededication of the Mound on the Quad on Friday, March 31 at 1 p.m.

Located on the northwest side of the Quad, the historic Mound is the site of the old Franklin Hall dorm that was burned during the Civil War era. It has remained one of the most popular landmarks on the UA campus since that time. The Quad is known for being the heart of the campus and the Mound is an intricate part of the rich tradition of the University.

The event will showcase a beautification project of the Mound by the SGA Senate and the Alumni Association with the goal of protecting the historic site from deterioration and man-made damage. The NAA funded the placement of cast-iron bollards and chains around the Mound and the SGA funded the landscaping.

Jessica Sanders, SGA senator, and Rick Tibbett, manager of UA landscape and grounds, directed the landscaping portion of the project. Some 20 SGA representatives worked on the project at the Mound before spring break, Sanders said.

All members of the community are invited to attend the rededication.
