UA’s Delta Epsilon Chi Sponsors June 4 Race to Benefit Caring Hands Hospice

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama student marketing association Delta Epsilon Chi is hosting Racing Feet for Caring Hands, a 5K race and one mile fun run Saturday, June 4, at the UA Recreation Center.
Registration and sign-in will begin at 8 a.m.; the race will begin at 9 a.m. Registration is available online at www.bama.ua.edu/~uadeca/run.htm or participants can register at the event. All participants will receive a T-shirt. Following the race, there will be door prizes and an awards ceremony with refreshments.
The proceeds generated from the race and fun run will benefit Caring Hands Hospice and its Children’s Grief Center. The Grief Center, which meets the needs of children experiencing a personal life-limiting illness or that of a loved one, is the only one of its kind in Tuscaloosa. The center also provides bereavement care and grief support to children age 18 and younger who face grief associated with death.
Delta Epsilon Chi (DEX) focuses mainly on the marketing, management and entrepreneurial aspects of the business world. The University’s DEX chapter is new to the campus this year and members of this organization will have opportunities to compete in national events, hold national offices, attend leadership conferences, and increase their business knowledge and networking skills as well as conduct civic philanthropy.
UA student Ashley Rogers, president and founder of the University’s DEX chapter, noted, “A terminal illness is a traumatic experience for anyone, but especially for a child who may not have developed the necessary coping skills. We want to do all we can to provide a caring and nurturing environment for children to overcome their grief.”
Toni Welbourne, executive director of Caring Hands Hospice, is thankful to have the support from the student organization. “We are extremely grateful for this group of young leaders and their support of children in need. With such support, we can continue the specialized, individual care these children need in order to move past their grief and have meaningful lives.”
