TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Student Recreation Center was selected as one of the 2005 Outstanding Sports Facilities at the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) Annual Conference and Expo that was held April 7 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.

The UA Recreation Center was one of seven facilities recognized for the award. Over 1,700 NIRSA affiliated recreational sports professionals attended the exposition representing hundreds of campuses across North America.

“We are especially proud of the Student Recreation Center winning this award because this facility was both an existing renovation and a new expansion,” said George Brown, director of University Recreation. “NIRSA has recognized these challenges and the unique and powerful architectural and functional elements of the facility.”
