TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Tuskegee native Robert Turner has become the first African-American student selected as chief of staff of the Student Government Association at The University of Alabama. As the executive chief of staff, he is responsible for implementing policies and creating programs to ensure communication and productivity between the executive council, committee chairs and committee members.
Turner is the very first student to hold the position of executive chief of staff; for the first time in UA SGA history, two chiefs of staff were selected. As the executive chief of staff, he works directly under SGA president Katie Boyd.
Turner is a 2000 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Tuskegee, where he served as president of the SGA. Currently, he is a senior at UA majoring in political science. He has worked extensively on the campaigns of Greg Foster for State Treasurer and Joe Turnham for Congress, among others, and has served as the Tuscaloosa County Chairman for the Don Siegelman for Governor campaign and president of the College Democrats at UA.
In the future, Turner hopes to take what he has learned at UA back to Tuskegee. “I love Tuskegee and long for the day when I can come back home and make a difference in my hometown,” he said.
